My name is Sonja Angst and I was born and raised on the island of Molokai, Hawaii, where I had the opportunity to grow up in a unique environment. Family, community, and respect for the land were all  important to me.
I am passionate about sustainability and product/package design, focusing on uplifting indigenous practices and bringing affordable, sustainable products to marginalized communities. I strive to think critically about sustainability by looking at the choice of materials, processes, locations, production, consumption and behaviors. The design process can be both sustainable and regenerative. I value the indigenous practice of preserving the land and their notion that we are not above or separate from nature. We depend on ecological systems to sustain us and our approach to design must be informed by this knowledge. I believe that we need to design for perpetuity. I therefore value the role of design and the function of the designer as a leader in social, cultural, and political landscapes.
I am a recent graduate from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelors of Arts in Design and a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
